The Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Board
invites applications by full-time tenured/tenure
track faculty members with the rank of Assistant
Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor at the
University of Maryland College Park, for financial
support for their creative and performing arts
activities during the Summer of 2005.
- Applications are invited from faculty members
working in the fields of art, architecture,
creative writing (poetry, prose and
translations), all aspects of the theatre,
television, radio, dance, music, film,
photography and similar fields.
- Stipends for Summer 2005 ($8,750 for Assistant,
Associate and Full Professors) will be granted
to provide two months support for creative and
performing arts projects. The Board also
welcomes applications for a one-month award
($4,375 for Assistant, Associate and Full
Professors) from those faculty members who will
teach half-time in the summer school or who
have other sources of partial support for their
projects. The awards are restricted to faculty
members on 9, 9.5, or 10 month contracts who
are engaged in creative and performing arts
projects not funded from other sources during
the summer, and who are not otherwise engaged
in teaching activities except as stated above.
Additional expenses can be provided only under
exceptional circumstances.
- Generally, no faculty member will receive a
CAPA award in two consecutive years.
- It must be emphasized that all awards are made
with the understanding that if other support is
received for the same project during the same
period, the holder will relinquish the award
made by the CAPA Board. Only faculty members
who will continue on the faculty of the
University of Maryland in the year following
receipt of the award are eligible to receive an
award from CAPA.
- Copies of any publications, recordings, or
other appropriate materials resulting from CAPA
support should be provided to the Board and
should acknowledge therein the support
provided. Where appropriate, program copy for
performances should acknowledge the support of
the CAPA Board.
- Applications for the award are available in
the Division of Research and Graduate Studies,
2125 Lee Building, and in MS Word and Adobe
Acrobat formats at the CAPA

An original application plus 9 copies on white paper must
be submitted to CAPA, The Graduate School, Room
2125 Lee Building, by 12:00 p.m, Friday,
