Subject:	Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Announcement

Graduate School Deadline: Friday, 1 October 2004 at 12:00 p.m., 2100 Lee Bldg.

This is to inform you that the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Announcements and Guidelines for faculty have been posted at the CAPA website.

Application forms for CAPA awards are available in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat format at the CAPA website. Additional forms are available from Ms. Pam Solomos, Room 2125 Lee Building. The original and all copies should be printed on white paper. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Solomos at (301) 405-0358 or by email (psolomos@umresearch.umd.edu). THE DEADLINE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS IS 12:00 NOON, FRIDAY, 1 OCTOBER 2003. No application will be accepted after that date. All applications should be forwarded to CAPA, The Graduate School, Room 2125, Lee Building. Recipients of the awards will be notified before the end of the Fall semester.

Faculty members receiving CAPA Awards for the amount of $8,750 (Assistant, Associate and Full Professors) may not teach in Summer School or receive salary from other sources; those receiving $4,375 (Assistant, Associate and Full Professors) may teach one course in Summer School or receive salary for one month from another source. It is further understood that awards can be accepted only by faculty who will remain on the University faculty in the year following the receipt of the award.

Each application contains a sheet on which you may make your recommendation. You have also been asked to numerically rank all applicants from your department for the same award. Your rankings and comments will be kept confidential. In the past we have found the chair's evaluation to be quite useful and the CAPA committee gives serious weight to both the ranking and the chair's comments.

These recommendations must also reach our office by 12:00 NOON, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2004. Please remind your applicants that, as stated on the application form, we need an ORIGINAL application plus nine copies, supporting documents and vitae.
