Credentials
Dr. Baras is the Founding Director of the Institute for Systems Research at the University of Maryland from 1985 to 1991. He is the recepient of the 1978 Naval Research Laboratory Research Publication Award, the 1980 Outstanding Paper Award of the IEEE Control Systems Society, and a 1983 Alan Berman Research Publication Award from NRL.

Dr. Baras is a Fellow of the IEEE; he has served in the Board of Governors of the IEEE Control Systems Society, IEEE Engineering R&D Committee, Aerospace Industries Association advisory committee on advanced sensors and IEEE Fellow evaluation committee.

He is currently serving on the editorial boards of Mathematics of Control, Signals and Systems, Systems and Control: Foundations and Applications, IMA, J. of Mathematical Control and Information, Systems Automation- Research and Applications; managing editor of the series Progress in Automation and Information Systems from Springer-Verlag.
