Dr. Fu has been a University faculty/researcher and consultant in the areas of infrastructures for over twenty years. He also had ten-year experience in the nuclear engineering area. He has completed numerous research projects totaling over $9 millions as P.I. or Co-P.I. His research funding includes these sources: World Bank; NSF; National Transportation Safety Board; Army Corps of Engineers; Argonne Lab; MTMC; FHWA; American Truck Association; American Iron and Steel Institute; Bethlehem Steel Corp.; British Steel Corp.; Maryland State Highway Administration; Maryland Port Admin; Maryland Transportation Authority; Baltimore City; numerous international and domestic consulting firms.

His recently projects, including bridge testing and long-term monitoring, bridge routing based on the emergency situation, heavy move through the highway network, are all closely related to several key issues in homeland security.
