Credentials

Dr. Segal is the Past-President of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces & Society, a member of the Research Council of the International Sociological Association and has served as President of the District of Columbia Sociological Society and of the Research Committee on Armed Forces & Conflict Resolution of the International Sociological Association.

He has served as the Chair of the Section on War, Peace, and Social Conflict of the American Sociological Association. During the early years of volunteer military force, he directed the sociological research program at the Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Dr. Segal has tracked American peacekeeping operations in the Sinai over the past two decades. His books include “The Postmodern Military.” His current research focuses on the demography of the military and on the social structure of insurgency operations.
