Evaluating Prosecution Approaches to Reducing Gun Violence
Under grant BJAG-2005-1007 from the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, IGSR researchers are documenting how traditional and community prosecution have been applied to gun-related crimes in Anne Arundel and Prince George's Counties. The research team is examining how traditional and community prosecutorial models differ in their approach to gun violence cases; determining whether these prosecutorial approaches to reducing gun violence are operating as intended in comparison to documented office protocol as well as established best practices; and comparing and contrasting the structure of these prosecutorial models within and across offices. The team will highlight successes and provide recommendations for improving these approaches to assist the research sites and other State's Attorney Offices in structuring their prosecutorial models in relation to gun violence.
