CITI Training for Investigators:
CITI (Collaborative
Institutional Training Initiative) Training is widely
considered the gold standard in online human subjects
research training. By instituting this requirement we
are taking one step closer to our eventual goal of
accrediting our human research protect program at the
University of Maryland.
Initial Course:
As of
February 1, 2010, PIs,
Co-PIs and research team members must complete CITI
Training before the Initial Application or Renewal
Application can be fully approved, or they must be
temporarily removed from the research team until the
training has been completed. During the administrative
review of these transactions, the IRB Office will be
checking the CITI Training database to ensure that
training has been completed. CITI Training will not be
checked during Addenda transactions unless there are
changes being made to the research team.
Refresher Course:
All members of the research
community are required to complete the CITI Training
Refresher every three years.
Log On:
Log on to:
https://www.citiprogram.org/
to complete the
training. You will be able to create your own user name
and password as this is not linked to your UMD ID. Be
sure to select University of
Maryland College Park as your institution and
select the track that is most appropriate for the
research you are conducting. If you cannot complete the
training in one sitting, you can save and finish at a
later time (You can stop and start as many times as you
need.)
Tracks:
There are five separate tracks that can be taken.
Biomedical, Social & Behavioral, IRB Members, Minimal
Risk, Data/Lab Specimen Research.
NOTE:
Investigators and research team members are only
required to complete the track that is consistent with
the work they are conducting. However, the IRB Office
does recommend completing the Biomedical and Social &
Behavioral Track.
The University of Maryland has invested in this training
course for the benefit of the investigators, students,
research participants and the entire research community
on campus. The training is provided at no cost to you.
Thank you for your cooperation and please contact the
IRB
Office with any questions!
