Coeus Electronic Research Administration System
ORAA is pleased to announce that effective, April 1, 2008, the Coeus Electronic Research Administration (eRA) System will become the University’s official system of record for proposal and award data.
Effective April 7, 2008, under Division G, Title II, Section 218 of PL 110-161, the National Institutes of Health Public Access Policy (NOT-OD-05-022) is now mandatory. Authors must deposit in NIH’s digital journal repository PubMedCentral (PMC) http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov , the final version of peer-reviewed manuscripts arising out of specific NIH-funded activities and/or NIH contracts and accepted for publication.

New Software Requirements for Grants.gov Submissions
Over the past few years, increasing numbers of federal funding
opportunities have required submission via Grants.gov and use of the
Pure Edge or IBM WorkPlace Forms Viewer software. A major change is fast
approaching. Soon, Adobe Reader 8.1.2 - and only Adobe Reader 8.1.2 -
will be used to prepare, review, and submit Grants.gov applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to an Assistant Director, this position assumes responsibility for a wide range of sponsored project administration duties, which include providing proposal development assistance and review, ensuring compliance with sponsor and university’s policies and procedures, negotiating contracts, accepting and managing awards, drafting and administering subawards, and acting as liaison between sponsors and faculty/departmental administrators.
Coeus Electronic Research Administration Specialist # 114798
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide information and help desk support to UM faculty & staff in the use of the Coeus Electronic Research Administration Grants Management System. Assist the eRA Program Manager with Coeus system administration duties. Assist the Coeus Implementation team in training and support for campus departments in the preparation, electronic routing and electronic submission of proposals via the Coeus System as well as use of the post award module in the Coeus System.
MANDATORY EDUCATION - FOR ALL NIH PROPOSALS AND/OR AWARDS INVOLVING
HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH
All personnel submitting NIH applications or contract proposals, or
receiving new or non-competing awards for research involving human
subjects, must be certified as having completed an educational course
or tutorial on the protection of human subjects from research risks.
To complete this requirement and qualify for an NIH certification
letter, please reference the procedures
as posted on the IRB site.
ANIMAL RESEARCH
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the amendment of
the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory
Animals to allow "just-in-time" verification of Institutional
Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval of animal use in PHS-funded
research. This change was strongly endorsed by COGR and other associations
