What is an IRB?
An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee designated by an institution to help assure the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects. The IRB approves the initiation of and conducts periodic reviews of research involving human subjects. Investigators also share the responsibility for protecting human subjects.
Effective February 15, 2013
As of February 15, 2013, your CITI Training Completion certificate must be linked to your IRBNet project in order for the IRB to proceed with the approval process. More information on this process can be found at the CITI training page.
Effective February 15, 2012
All applications for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) must be submitted through our new electronic database IRBNet. All application forms and templates are located in the Document Library of your project within IRBNet.
Go to www.irbnet.org. Then click “New User Registration” in the upper right hand corner and follow the instructions. Your IRBNet account is NOT linked to your UMD ID.
