What is an IRB?

An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee that performs ethical review of proposed research to help assure the protection of the rights and welfare of human participants. The IRB approves the initiation of and conducts periodic reviews of research involving human participants. Investigators also share the responsibility for protecting human participants.

The CITI Training Completion Report [Social & Behavioral/Biomedical Research-Basic/Refresher] for each member of the research team must be linked to the IRBNet project. The IRB approval process will not begin until all CITI Completion Reports have been linked. Linking instructions can be found on the Training Page.

IRB applications must be submitted through www.irbnet.org. Application Forms, Templates, and instructions can be found in the Document Library and Forms and Templates tab within IRBNet or on the IRB Forms page.
